The following Master’s thesis tries to research the consumption of electronic databases for
the academic purposes by the students of the Tbilisi State University.
It is well known, that the age of rapid globalization and development of information
technologies have created the new opportunities and people face new challenges in all spheres of
their lives, especially in education.
The libraries, as supplier institutions of the electronic databases, have to ensure
development of their services in order to satisfy the demands of the target audience by considering
the modern tendencies. Hence, in course of a time, library services and electronic databases of the
university have to be changing systematically to provide costumers with all necessary products
easily, quickly and qualitatively. In order to ensure effectiveness of the university library and use
of its services by wide range of students, it is necessary to conduct a research. The research will
allow us to calculate the consumption coefficient of the library services and recourses and to reveal
students’ needs, expectations and demands. For this reason, the research has been conducted on the
consumption of the electronic databases for the research purposes by the studnets of the Tbilisi
State University. The main questions of the research is to identify the frequency of electronic
databases consumtion by students, the level of satisfaction with provided services, the challenges
that are faced in the process of information gathering and finally, the compatability of existing
electronic databases with students’ demands.
