Georgia is a tradicional producer country of honey. There are several local types of honey in Georgia, some of which are noteworthly: Acacia honey, Chesnut honey, Meadow honey, etc. The main advantages of Georgian honey are the perfect natural environment, climat conditions, favoriable location in black - sea region, but lack of modern technologies, low productivity and quality, compliance with international standarts, can be considered as the main disadvantages of Georgian honey. It must be mentioned, that Georgian production lacks some of the processing quality and packing that is required for direct sales to confectionery and food industries.
The biggest amount of honey is produced in the region of Kakheti. For Georgia, honey has a high economic value and also brings a lot of income. Mainly, Georgian honey is shipped to neighbour countries and several Asian regions. But in future prospective, here is a chance to export in EU.
Despite the fact, that Georgia currently is not a big player in the global honey industry, it has a high potential to be one of the leader exporters.
