Abstract
This paper studies one of the big-name novels, called “Day of the Oprichnik” by a contemporary Russian postmodernist writer Vladimir Sorokin and its Georgian translation by Nodar Ladaria, which was published in 2014. Apart from studying Postmodernism, as a literary movement and dissecting its general characteristics, there are analysed such consequential issues as difficulties of translation of postmodernist texts, Russian postmodernism, namely main features of Vl. Sorokin’s artistic work in the corresponding chapters and subchapters.
The practical part of the master’s paper analyses transferring of phraseological units, onomastic vocabulary and jargons in the Georgian translation of Vl. Sorokin’s “Day of the Oprichnik”. The translator’s style, his choice in the specific occasions and, generally, the attitude towards the translating material is revealed on the basis of analysing the empirical material.
Observing the lexical-grammatical features of the novel interesting for us and their structural-semantic study gave us a chance to draw attention on such an important issue according which a postmodernist text transferred from one language into another appears to be an important research material in many ways not only for one of the specific fields, but also in terms of adjacent disciplines. It is worth noting that, among them translation studies has a special place, as the main field for studying a dialogue between two different cultures.
