Abstract
The purpose of the master’s work is to illustrate how the image of King Erekle is described in the artistic creations and memoirs of Georgian romanticists, his merit and achievements towards the country. In this regard, the poems, stories and dramas of Grigol Orbeliani, Aleksandre Orbeliani, Vakhtang Orbeliani, Nikoloz Baratashvili and Grigol Rcheulishvili are discussed in this work as far as possible.
In this master's thesis, there is a sort of similarity found in Grigol, Alexander and Vakhtang Orbeliani lyrics and poems, in the point of view that they alive and praise the king Erekle, the great patron, as the unequalled hero, the heroic warrior, the fearless warlord, who became fanmous borth in the East and in the West. But what about the works of Nikoloz Baratashvili, the character of King Erekle is presented differently: the poet describes him not as unequalled warrior and commander, but as a far-sighted politician. He was the great poet who portrayed King Erekle face as worried about the fate of the country, caring for the future existence and for the orientation of the country.
By this way, our writers, remained in the past, were reviving themselves in such a gloomy epoch, healing their damaged dignity by the memories of the past, or were considering that the glory of Iveria was buried along with King Erekle, or were trying to seek for a hope for the future.
Nikoloz Baratashvili stated clearly that the King Erekle not only evaluated rightly the necessity of the connection of Georgia to Russia, but also marked that it was even the way because of the historical necessity. The great poet not only showed the well-considered arguments of the king's correctness at the moment of solving the issue, but also emphasized properly that the king's step was proceeded with the desiered result. In his lyric: "Tomb of the King of Irakli", he presented even this desired results with all possible conditions.
In the end, between the romanticists, the prosaist Grigol Rcheulishvili presented the face of King Erekle in the "Lemons of Widow". As a European type of prosaist, he presented the king in an unusual circumstances, thus gained the serious reproaches. This difference was unacceptable for the romanticists who were seized of the glory of the past and dissatisfied with the present.
