The study of derived words is an important issue in linguistics. As far as, derived words might be considered one of the ways of enriching the language. With this point of view, the data of the old literary monuments are discussed in our paper. The paper is based on the old Georgian texts, namely V-XI centuries. As we know, the texts of this period are of ecclesiastic nature, and based on them it is vivid that active and passive suffixes are distinguished in the old Georgian language, as well as some sound patterns, which at first glance seemed to be root, but in fact they were suffixes. The study of derived words based on the old Georgian texts is topical because it allows us to study the mentioned issue diachronically.
The aim of our research is to separate, classify and characterize the derived words in the old Georgian texts on the content level.
We have used descriptive and historical-comparative methods of a research. The main results of the research are presented in the form of conclusions. We think that the material presented here will help the students of the Faculty of Philology.
