Abstract
The Dynamics and Perspectives of Economic Relations Between Georgia and Russia. There are
some key factors to be always taken into account while discussing this relation.
Since the collapse of Soviet Union, both counties experienced major difficulties in making the
smooth transition from a centrally planned command economy to a market-based economy, yet
the process significantly halted for Georgia by the ongoing military confrontation. The aim of
post-communist economic transition can be described mainly as building strong market
institutions, both countries showing the exact same transition pattern.
In particular, not homo-economics, as it is the main driver of a developed market economy, but
homo-transformaticus.
That’s why it is quite interesting to see the impact of the financial crisis on the individual in the
process of transformation as well as conducting the zombie analysis. Unfortunately, the relation
between these two counties may serve as an example for constant opportunistic actions, as is
broadly discussed below. Also, it’s worth noting that economic relationships have never been
severed between counties despite long existing tension and suspension of diplomatic relations
following Russian intervention of 2008.
The first and second chapters of the paper cover the analysis of some of the acute and attentiongrabbing processes of the XX (90th) and XXI centuries. In the third chapter, discussed are the
goals of economic expansion within the framework of Russia's "liberal empire" and Postcommunist Georgia standing at crossroads between two alternatives-the European Union or The
Eurasian Economic Union.
