Abstract
The struggle for power in Iraq began between Sunnis and Shiites since Iraq gained independence. Because the majority of the population in this country is Shiite, the government was ruled by Sunni governments in Iraq before the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime. Ethno-confessional controversy in Iraq intensified in the early 21st century.
After Saddam Hussein, Shiites gradually came to power in the country, but this was not an easy process. The Shiites have had to move through political processes to seize power in Iraq. The Sunni-Shiite conflict in Iraq is having a serious impact not only on the country's own problems, but also on regional security. Iraqi Sunnis and Shiites have supporters in the region. Therefore, there is often a serious interference from "supporting countries" in the ethno-confessional confrontation in Iraq,
The fact is that Shiites have been gaining ground in Iraq for several years now, and Iran's political influence in that country has grown significantly. This has led to the intensification of anti-Iranian forces in both Iraq and the region.
Amid the recent regional crisis, Iraqi Sunnis are still trying to regain power in the country, but for so many years now, Shiites have not given up on their rival Sunnis. In this context, the periodic struggle for power in Iraq is sometimes fierce.
