Abstract
The reform of the Penitentiary system has been developed in different directions. Number of convicts decreased from 24 000 to 10 000 as a result of legislative measures, Minimum space allocated to the defendant/convict increased, torture and inhuman treatment has been eliminated, an individual plan of serving sentence was introduced.
In 2016 a low risk penitentiary system was opened, where inmates have the opportunity to join sports, learn foreign languages and various vocational skills, engage in rehabilitation programs, take part in cognitive-recreational activities, learn, teach and work.
The problem of alienation between the convicts and family members still remains as a problem and the existing stigma that prevents the released convicts from integrating and coordinating with the society.
Therefore the purpose of the study is to study the future vision, needs and challenges of the convicts, waiting for release of the #16 low risk institution one year before the discharge. Studying of existing services and challenges in the process of resocialization and rehabilitation of convict/former convict, and tasks are to study the concrete needs, challenges and expectations of the convicts of the terms of psychological, social, family support and employment, understanding their opinions regarding stereotypes and stigma. Study of the convicts attitudes to the role of social workers.
The study of services offered by the state structures and NGOs are offered to the beneficiary. Study of the difficulties that the social service representative faces in the process of working. The survey revealed that all the interviewed convicts believe that the family will receive and support them. It is mentioned that relations with family members have not changed yet. However, different results were revealed in the interview process with service suppliers.
The noted that the problem of alienation between family and beneficiaries, there are also facts of divorces in terms of employment, the convicts did not pay attention to the expected difficulties, particularly in the stigmatization process which was very active during the interview with the service representatives. All five respondents pointed to the negative impact of the stigma on the employment process. The interview revealed that the convicts outside the services of the National Probation Agency and the Center of the Crime Prevention have no information.
The quilitative research is a novelty, as no similar research has been carried out on convicts in the prerelease period.
