Abstract
Violence against children in the family is very actually in Georgia. There are different forms of
violence. In order to eradicate violence against children, the Government of Georgia issued an
order in 2010 for the purpose of child protection and referral, but more efforts are needed to
change the tolerant attitude towards violence. The aim of the research was to study the level of
awareness and knowledge of young people about violence against children in the family. The
following tasks have been set up to reach the aim: 1. What information do you have about forms
of violence. 2. What do you think about violence against children in the family? etc. In the
framework of the research, the triangulation was used and it was conducted according to the four
research methods: Qualitative research, quantitative research, discourse analysis and expert
survey. Objects of the research were young people aged 14 to 29, according to the Georgian
legislation and also experts and members of one of the active members of the social network.
About 230 respondents took part in quantitative research, 30 individuals were interviewed in
qualitative research, and as for the experts, three of them were surveyed. The research is as
probabilistic (quantitative research, discourse analysis) as well as non-counterfeit (qualitative
research, survey of experts). The research revealed that young people have a negative attitude
towards violence, although they have more information about physical and sexual abuse than
other types of violence. Consequently, these forms of violence perceive the most seriously. It
should be noted that they have difficulty recognizing psychological violence and in many cases
they do not perceive this form as violence against children. The research revealed that their civil
and moral responsibility for other members of society is low, because they think, that the
responses about issues of violence against to children in the family, should affect any other person
or agency, even if they have this information themselves. As a result of research analysis, as well
as information received in the survey of experts and various literature, it has been established
that additional measures should be taken to raise public awareness. All this may be expressed as
active media campaigns, as well as education and training courses for both children and adults.
