Abstract
The aim of the topic is to determine how the work of women politicians is covered in Georgian TV media; what is the position of female politicians in Georgian TV media and what their images are. This theme is actual due to many circumstances.
Nowadays, we are increasingly finding some stereotypes in coverage of women's issues in the media. Obviously, the media also supports partial stereotypes. This work reviews what the role of media in the process of gender stereotypes is; how much do TV media use gender stereotypes in covering women policy issues and, as well as, covering the above issue, does the media offer suggestions for the gender-balanced respondents.
The aim of the research is not to compare women politicians and their political achievements with male politicians. To analyze how women's politicians are covered in Georgian media, the theory of framing is used, which allows us to observe those particular frames, which the media had used to cover women politicians. In this work, content analyze was selected as a research methodology. To create a common picture and to be able to compare, several TV channels have been selected: broadcasting company “Rustavi 2”, TV company “Imedi”, Public Broadcaster – Pirveli Arkhi and studio “Maestro”. These media outlets were chosen because of their high rating.
This rating is confirmed by the NDI survey of June 2016. The following research allows us to see, how did media cover issues of women politicians; by which frames were covered the specific cases and how frequently gender stereotypes were reported while covering research issues in media outlets.
The results of the survey will help journalists, as well as public institutions and civil society members.
