Abstract
Nowadays and in the future education will be the most solid capital that the person owns and
the use of which is infinite. It has a vital role in the development of the country and society on
a macro (community) and micro (individual) level. For a human being, getting higher education
is cultural and social, therefore, represents the ability to accumulate financial capital.
Implementation of the proper educational policy is an important obligation for each state.
The purpose of a research “Motivation of Getting Higher Education in Georgia” is to study the
main motivations for getting higher education. The objective of the research is to identify and
analyze expectations related to the main motivations for getting higher education, the
influencing substantial factors and revealing and analyzing of expectations that are related to
the higher education.
At the first stage, the study of the theories related to the research issue was conducted;
Reviewing existing theories about economic and social effects of education as well as analysis of
Social and Cultural capital theories of Bourdieu and Theoretic Model of Philip Kare (on adult
motivations of getting education).
At the next stage, qualitative and quantitative research was conducted. The target groups of
research were school-leavers, students and graduates.
It can be said that social inertia is a major motivational descriptor for getting higher education:
it motivationally strengthens the will to enter the higher university, stimulates parental
demand, behavior of mates or desire to acquire student experience. Getting knowledge and
orientation on successful career is still a more implicit factor and such role is less obvious.
According to the main findings of the research, the main motivations for getting higher
education are: social inertia, professional self-determination, employment, diploma, personal
growth, learning for knowledge, and student experience.
