Abstract
The research paper concerns the development of nationalism in the imperial space. In spite of that, USSR was interfering to develop the political nationalism in the Soviet Republics and his aim was to create soviet identity, in the Georgian SSR the independence processes was not interrupted, the soviet ethnic policy was unsuccessful. There were beginning the dismantling of totalitarianism from soviet period. There were created national authority, also the legal basis for the independence state of Georgian in this period. The Georgian national movement had played a great role in awakening the national consciousness.
Under the liberalization processes in USSR there were created Georgian social-political organizations and these took the form of national movement that had played a great role in developing the political nationalism. The paper will show that these processes followed to cultural nationalism taken place in 1970s and great contributions for it had been made by Georgian intellectuals and dissidents. Mention should be made that USSR in parallels of Soviet nationalism supported the cultural processes in Georgia. Also the Helsinki Act assisted in the establishing of Georgian national movement in 1970s.
