Abstract
The aim of the research is to study morphological signs and chronological development of late bronze – early Iron Age mug-like vessels speared in Shida Kartli region. The materials for the research were selected from three main sites – Treli gorebi, Khovle gora and Narekvavi. The
one of the main reason why we choose these sites is the different variety of mug-like vessels and wide chronological line, from 13th century B.C. to 6th century B.C.
One of the main parts of the research is determining the name of this kind vessels. In Georgian archaeological literature there are two terms Kathkha and Tolcha. In the process of research difference of these two terms was not identified. The same types of vessels in some cases were called as Tolcha and in some cases as Katkha. So the goal was to find out the etymology of both terms and observe if there is any kind of differences in function or sizes.
The whole research is based on morphological analyses which are description of archaeology with help of formalized methodology. That means to identify morphological form of any kind archeological artifact after that every part of the artifact are divided in groups. It gives us opportunity to give codes to formulated shapes of pottery and place them in one system.
As a result we will get research of late bronze – early iron age Kathkha/Tolcha vessels according to the rules and regulations of postprocessor archeology. Postprocessualism is a collective term for a number of approaches to the past, all of which have roots in the postmodernist current of thought that developed in the 1980s and 1990s.
