Abstract
As it is known, Adjarian dialect is an important link to Georgian literary language. The subject of our research is to study the lexical features of the Upper Adjarian speech. In this regard, the the peculiarities of this dialect gives an interesting linguistic picture.
The study revealed that the vocabulary of the Upper Adjara is mainly based on the old Georgian language. We will name some samples of the lexical archaic vocabulary we find: Arnabi, Kota, Leigma, mere ...
The characteristic part of Upper-Adjarian speech is represented by the following lexical dialects: andzokhebuli, badadi, dapantva, tsviti, tkhueli…
The characteristic features of the lexical qualities of Upper-Adjarian speech are also the Zan elements: badishi, burdgha, chorcgkhi… . In addition, such lexical units are proven to help in the restoration of some archetypes belonging to the base language. The lexical units of this line are: akhupva, keloba, khashari, nerchi, erinji.
Due to the historic past of the Georgian part, foreign-language borrowings are found in the Upper-Adjarian speech. Namely, there are Arabic and Persian lexemes brought via Turkish language: kirmizi, nakhojvari, sirti, tuari, legeni…
The speech of Upper Adjara is rich with figurative expressions like “sitting on the shaved donkey” and other ones too.
Thus, the dialect of the Upper Adjara vocabulary is interesting in many ways. We believe that the study of it is relevant, promising novelty. In this regard, the research will help to reveal some new or forgotten lexical units. Accordingly, studying the vocabulary of the dialect on the valley level can support to numerate the interesting lexical units. Each new lexical unit will get its place in the dialect of the field vocabulary. The study of dialect vocabulary is the basis and wealth of the verbal foundation of the literary language.
