Abstract
The work deals with the content of “the right to life” and the place of “the right to die” in the right to life. The subject of study is discussed in detail in the context of ethics and law. The conclusions and recommendations are given on the basis of the represented contradictory assessments.
Relationship between life and death is an interesting and eternal topic: what is life and what is death? Are these phenomena independent from each other? In the world of the 21st century, when there is a claim to be on the highest stage of social development, the actual question is: is human life right or duty? The answer is: the right to life is a fundamental right, without which all other human rights lose all meaning and substantiation.
In compliance with the first sentence of Article 2 Paragraph 1 of Convention on Human Rights, “everyone’s right to life shall be protected by law. No one shall be deprived of his life intentionally.”
One of the means of artificially ending a life is euthanasia – murder at the request of a victim.
There are many opinions and questions about euthanasia, is it crime or mercy (a humane act).
The present work concerns the important legal problem, the right to euthanasia. There is not an international consensus on this issue and undoubtedly it is actual topic in the world.
