კორიუნის „მაშტოცის ცხოვრება“

The Live of Maštoc‘ by Koriwn, Armenian author of 5th century is the oldest original monument of Armenian literature. It describes life and activities of Armenian theologian of 5th century – Maštoc‘. The work contains significant data about Georgia. It makes particular emphasis on Maštoc‘’s merits in creation of the alphabets for Armenians, as well as for Georgians and Caucasian Albanians. Armenian scientific community shares Koriwn’s narration without any criticism and regards that this is the truth, just as the story of Maštoc‘’s younger follower and eyewitness while Georgian scientific community still regards this issue critically. Though the work deals with the most significant issues of Caucasian studies, irrespective of great interest to Koriwn’s work, The Life of Maštoc‘ was not translated into Georgian up to present.
In our work on dissertation we set as a goal to study of Koriwn’s work critically and its translation into Georgian would be the scientific novelty allowing Georgian researchers to rely on Georgian version of The Life of Maštoc‘, get familiar with the literature related to the issue collected in single publication in Georgian language. In the dissertation work Koriwn’s The Life of Maštoc‘ is researched in the context of text studies and source studies. Work presents the Armenian texts of all three (A, B, C) groups fully, with Georgian translations and comments.
The dissertation clearly shows how the abovementioned composition by Koriwn has been altered by editors and how the role of Maštoc‘ was transformed from the local preacher to the creator of the alphabets in Transcaucasia.
