JSC Georgian Railway, as a sole operator of the railway network in Georgia, is important for the socio-economic development of the country. Plays a key role in enhancing Georgia's transit corridor and supports economic cooperation with countries in the region. 30% of freight traffic comes from Georgia to the railway. In addition, Georgian Railway JSC will play a special role in the development of the Silk Road. In the paper we set out the goal to explore the development of the Silk Road as a tool to support Georgia's economic growth. The research includes a general analysis of Georgian Rail Freight transportation in a competitive environment, including competition through pipelines, competition with alternative rail transit routes, competition with motor transport, focus on core business activities, revenue analysis from freight.
The study also examines Georgian Railways development of strategy in terms of a freight transportation and the associated risks, the company`s main indicators of statistical and financial analysis over the years 2006-2019.
