ცხინვალის რეგიონის რეტროსპექტივა კარტოგრაფიული და დემოგრაფიული წყაროების მიხედვით (XX-XXIსს)

Problem of Tskhinvali region is one of the most important challenge which Georgia faces today.
Possibility of analyzing ongoing circumstances in Tskhinvali is hindered by complex geopolitical situation.
Because of these problems, during years region became inaccessible for conducting scientific research.It encompasses fields such as environmental protection, demography, socio-economic development,etc.
This research refers to creation of retrospective picture of Tskhinvali region based on cartographic and demographic sources.
Region, which covers territories of former South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast is not controlled by Georgian government and since 1990s it is declared as an independent republic by the separatist forces, however it is not recognized by international society.
Based on cartographic and legal documents, research has stated following conclusions: transformations of administrative arrangement, analysis of different period and scale’s cartographic sources. Furthermore, changes of resettlement area in the recent period was revealed based on the cosmic pictures, thus several thematic maps were created.
