The main goal for the research “Characteristics of Terrorism and Media Symbiosis in Georgian Online
Media” is to study and analyze the parameters regarding online coverage of terrorism-related topics.
In the era of internet and rapid technological achievements journalism is continuously developing and
changing. Aside from being popular, online media is also the fastest way of spreading information,
hence it is important to clarify exactly how the terrorism-related topics are being covered in online
media.
The article is a research about the following topics: is there a symbiotic connection between Georgian
online media and terrorism, what are the characteristics of that said symbiotic connection, is Georgian
online media paying enough attention to the problem of terrorism, how thoroughly does the Georgian
online media cover terrorism-related topics, what role does media play against terrorism, and finally,
the research also emphasizes the reasons and possible outcomes of those symbiotic connections.
The article uses several methods of qualitative research: 1. content analysis; 2. interview; 3. framing.
Media experts were interviewed during the research process to ethically answer questions regarding
connections between terrorism and media, and to identify the reasons and characteristics of that said
symbiosis. Based on all above some general conclusions were made. Two online media pages were
studied during the research process, on.ge and netgazeti.ge. These two were chosen based on their
ratings, ethicality and reliability. Based on content analysis some specific issues were pointed out.
