Abstract
The main aim of the research is to study the experiences of single mothers of disabled children as
well as the social and political aspects of their oppression. The objectives of the research include
assessing state policy regarding the needs of this particular group and studying the experiences of
these women from the perspective of both motherhood studies and disability studies. The data
was gathered using qualitative research technique of in-depth interviewing. The interviews
conducted show how the experiences of single mothers of disabled children differ from the
experiences of other single mothers. Their problems intersect more with the problems of disabled
community; however, they are marginalized in this group as well.
Without any tangible support from the state and the society, they struggle not only to satisfy the
basic needs of their children but also to protect their rights before various dominant institutions.
The state does not bear any responsibility for single mothers of disabled children. Even obtaining
the legal status of single mother is problematic for these women even though no real benefits are
attached to this status yet.
