Abstract
The thesis consists of introduction, three chapters and conclusion. The introduction has standard context.
The first chapter of the thesis “Organizational-Methodological Basis of the Leader” includes three sub-chapters:
1. study of a leader phenomenon and Genesis in management system;
2. Modern theories of leadership, leadership types and its influence in formation and development of the organizational culture;
3. Leadership and its impact on the organization's activities.
The first chapter of the paper starts with the definition of leadership according to M. Hackman, Q. Johnson, M Johnson, R. Jones, P. Dracker, V Bane. View points of Plato, Machiavelli, Todd, Stogdill, McGregor, Fiddler and Le Bon, Freud are also presented regarding leader qualities, behavior, work style and leadership in general.
They all recognize that leader’s qualities and their working style are the effective determinatives of the leadership. However, they all consider a leader and leadership in different aspects. Machiavelli gives advantage to the fear of subordinates towards leader, Todd names physical and emotional endurance of leader in the first place, Fiddler emphasizes on the ability of a leader to form healthy relationships etc. Also it is highlighted that nowadays foreign scientists pay attention not to the leader’s qualities but to his/her reaction in particular existing situation.
The same chapter deals with leader types and characteristics. The paper also describes authoritarian, democratic and liberal leaders and aresearch results on characteristics of a leader conducted by Michigan and Ohio (US) universities is applied to the paper. The chapter ends with the representation of leader behavior continuum drawn by Tanenbaumis and t. Schmidt.
