Ethnic conflicts are a serious problem for the today’s world. Thus it requires appropriate
competence and qualification to cover the issue. Besides this, political aspects are also noteworthy,
because myths and narratives are created for the political reasons that occupy significant space in
the media agenda. The mass media have great responsibility while broadcasting issues related to
the conflicts. Especially, considering complication and dynamics of conflict.

It is of great importance how ethnic conflicts are used for the manipulation in the inner political
life, triggering information storm. Later, after calming down the temperature, it is transformed
into the foundation for long-term information war. During political manipulations such important
issue as ethnic conflict, becomes issue of greater public interest, consequently exposing
competencies not only politicians and experts, but also qualification of journalists.
It is vital for the society to receive impartial and balanced information related to the ethnic
conflicts, which is often impossible because of biased people engaged in the discussion of conflicts
and journalists showing indifference towards the issue. Meanwhile it is interesting, what is the
main motivation of those media outlets deliberately covering the problematic issue with straight
line and subjective factors. It is very interesting what the share of politics and who benefits from
broadcasting the problem from this point of view and not from various viewpoints.

Chaotic diversity of the Georgian media is well shown in various formats of TV or radio programs,
newspaper articles or online-platforms, when discussing ethnic conflicts as one of the serious
problems, central and secondary issues are mixed and priorities are lost, while special thematic
program does not exist at all. Due to indifferent attitude, or lack of qualifications, Georgian media
often loses when covering conflicts. The problem of media-awareness is especially exposed when
the issues requiring deep and fundamental knowledge are discussed. Researchers pay great
attention to this problem and at the same time, it becomes the issue of broad discussion in the
society.
