Abstract
The master's work deals with challenges in the study of biology at the basic level of
secondary school. The study of biology as the subject begins from the seventh grade. The study
of biological issues at the primary stage is combined as an integral part with physics, chemistry
and natural science issues. These issues are combined into one textbook – under the name of
Nature / Natural science. In the documents that regulate education are clearly defined the
scientific knowledge and skills that the pupil should take as a result of teaching biology.
Nevertheless, the existing reality shows that pupils are less interested in studying natural
sciences, including biology. According to the International Educational Research (TIMS
2007/2011, 2011. National Examinations Center), the achievements of Georgian pupils are far
below to the international scaled average index.
It is noteworthy that biology is one of the most important fields of natural sciences and,
therefore, we found the study of problems related to its teaching at secondary school as
relevant. The study of biology and the formation of interest in it takes a special importance at
the basic level where the basic biological concepts are laid out and the biological consciousness
begins to form.
