The presented Master’s thesis deals with the financial statements, as the unit of analysis
and the role of a company’s financial position, financial stability and profitability assessment. The
above-mentiond is dispensed according to analysis of financial statements of Georgian Water and
Power Ltd. The financial evaluation of the company is based on the usage of selected methods of
financial analysis during the period of 2014-2017. The paper foremost discusses the theoretical
aspects of analytical signaficance of the statements and the principle and purpose of financial
reporting. Components of financial reporting are discussed together with their role and analytic
importance. The thesis further refers to analysis of the financial statement of GWP Ltd, which
assesses the company’s liquidity. Financial stability is analyzed through a number of factors, it also
embodies the company’s business activity analysis, estimates the company’s profitability and
investment efficiency. Analysis of bankruptcy of the enterprise is carried out based on Altman and
Springate models. Conclusions about the company’s financial position and profitability are speculated
on the basis of analyzing its financial statements. Furthermore, the problems precluding complete
analysis of financial reports in Georgia have been underlined, i.e. the matter of transparency of
financial reporting. Certain recommendations have been worked out from the results.
