Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to determine the characteristics of winemaking in Imereti region.
Winemaking itself is interconnected with viticulture since the growth of the latter is considered as a prerequisite for the development of winemaking.
This paper examines the reasons of viticulture being one of the leading sectors of agriculture in this particular region since it has a great importance in the economic development of Georgia.
In this work I demonstrate both, positive and negative outcomes of winemaking, as well as the tendencies that have been typical for the field in recent years.
In order to achieve above-mentioned objectives, I compared statistical information of the census of agriculture in 2004 and 2014 years, total vineyard surface areas and grape varieties growing in Imereti region.
This paper aims to show the potential of Imereti region in winemaking and highlight those conditions that contribute to further development. Furthermore, it discusses the barriers that prevent Imeretian wine to become a successful trading product and get an important place in international wine markets.
To research the aspects of winemaking and analyze obtained information, qualitative research methods were used.
This thesis will be helpful for those willing to get familiar with the current situation and further development of winemaking in Imereti region as it provides detailed information on these issues.
