ფოლკლორულ მასალასთან ვაჟა-ფშაველას მიმართების საკითხი

The aim of this master’s thesis is to analyze the connection between folklore and Vazha-Pshavela. How does he approach folklore? Is he under its influence and uses it unaltered for his poetic work, or makes changes, transforms it and gives a new content. In the beginning the paper tells us about the importance of researching this issue. As it is pointed out, the materials of folklore is a reflection of a soul, worldview and ideology of a certain nation and the way an author approaches it shows his talent and instincts.
Before we start talking about the main topic of this paper, we will discuss the importance of a relation of folklore and literature, during examining of which there will be pointed out several issues: what role did our national folklore played in creating out literature? In what way did the relation between writing and folkloric poetry develop? How do the folkloric elements enter in the works of artists? The last question is essential for our thesis.
In this paper we discuss the approach of Vazha-Pshavela to folkloric materials: as we know, at first he gathered this kind of materials, and later he had enough of them to inspect and to process them creatively.
In the first chapter “The matter of folkloric sources of Vazha-Pshavela’s works” we explore the folkloric sources of his literature, which he mentions himself in the letter “The criticism of B. Ip. Vartagava”, we also name the possible sources according to A. Shanidze’s book “Khevsurian Poetry”. There is also discussed the opinions of Vazha’s contemporary critics and researchers of later periods about the main issue of this thesis. To make correct and accurate conclusions we also mention wrong and sometimes even incompetent opinions.
We give a separate chapter to a question of how Vazha processes folkloric materials, speak about the essential changes in them, about an artistic idea, which is the premise to get closer to the secret of Vazha’s creative work.
In the third chapter we discuss the history of Vazha-pshavela’s poems to clarify that the poet always shows sings characteristic of individualistic creative work, no matter how close or far his poems are to folkloric materials.
