The present paper is devoted to the study of the quality of student literacy in the higher education
institutions in Georgia.
In the 21st century, each of us constantly receives huge volume information. The development of
digital technologies makes every human being, at the same time, become a media user, as well as an
author of media product. Today, the problem is not to find information, but it is to clarify the huge
flow of information. The separation of fact and opinion has become one of the biggest challenges of
our time.
The development of technologies has changed the requirements of the market and the
competencies of people accordingly. There is a wide-ranging education (poly education) that
requires a wide range of skills. Nowadays, knowledge of any professions is no longer sufficient for a
person to establish in society and to become a full member. For this he/she should possess a wide
set of competences. A certain set of skills is needed for efficient use of information.
Literacy involves a combination of all the skills needed for self-governing actions. Literacy is one of
the major, key competences in the modern word. Reading and writing skills significantly affects
the formation of individual as a citizen and his success in any field of activity. Therefore, the
development of literacy is paid relevant attention to the preschool and school, and the higher
education level.
