Abstract
The paper “Interconnection between Economic Regionalis and Economic Globalization based
on ASEAN practice” aims to expline the conections between two international tendencies –
economic regionalism and economic globalization.
The paper leans on Andrew Wyatt-Walter and his research “Regionalism, Globalisation and
Global Ecobomic Order” (1995), in which the auther points at ASEAN’s failier in terms of
deepening the economic region's integraion and this region's linking to global economy.
Accordingly, the paper aims to analyze the factors that drive economic regionalism and
economic globalizations within the region, and find out the connections between two
international tendencies based on “Problematic Region” – ASEAN.
This paper also aims to support one of the conventionally devided researchers’ teams in an
argued manner. At the beginning of the research, within the literature review dedicated part,
the researches of globalization and regionalism are devided into two parts. 1) Researchers who
consider regionalism and globlisation as interconnected tendencies; 2) Researchers who percept
regionalism and globalization as interconflicting phenomenons.
In order to prove the hypothesis, there are major ASEAN resolutions, formats and statistic
related to inter-regional integration and region's globalisation analyzed within the paper. In
accordance with the paper purposes, the research pays attention to the common factors of
regionalism and globalization; those are Labor Migration and Shared Manufacturring. Besides,
there is comperision done between the regional and global indicators of ASEAN’s trade and
foreign direct investments. This practice aims to determine the compabitility among the
deepening regional integration and advancing the region’s connections with globalization
tendencies.
