Abstract
As you already know, Georgia is a multi-ethnical country. Ethnic minorities are compactly
settled in several regions of our country, with a total population of about 16.2% (Department of
Statistics of Georgia, 2012) It is also very well known that ethnic minorities don’t know the state
language. Hence, they often face problems such as integration, employment, learning and
education, etc.
Based on the fact that learning of the national language for ethnical minorities starts from
the school, it is essential that the national curriculum should be constructed correctly and its
goalsshould be achievable in the process of teaching Georgian as a second language for ethnic
minority pupils.
However, despite the relevance of the mentioned issue, the problem still remains
unresolved. Non-Georgian pupils don’t have the appropriate linguistic environment to improve
the level of Georgian language;
Study resource is not equally available for pupils;
Local teachers need methodical training;
Pupils' parents are less interested in their children's success;
The achievement of the objectives of the curriculum does not comply with thepupils'
capabilities;
We found out the information relevant to the topic, as well as researches and found out that
there is no previous research on this topic. Therefore, our research will be a novelty. Based on the
obtained results of the survey, we can highlight gaps in teaching Georgian as a language in ethnic
minorities and think about ways to eliminate them.
