Abstract
The study of the master’s thesis is tolerance towards religious minorities in Georgia. Nowadays, religious minorities are quite diverse in Georgia, but their rights are not fully protected and they face many problems every day. Violent actions often carried out against them.
The main goal of present research is to study the attitude of students towards religious minorities.
Two universities were selected for research: Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Samtskhe-Javakheti State University. Nearly half of the population of Samtskhe-Javakheti is represented by religious minorities, while the majority of Tbilisi population is Orthodox Christian. Because of this different composition of the population, ti is interesting to compare the attitude of Orthodox students of these two universities.
Analysis of the results of the in-depth interviews showed that students living in Samtskhe-Javakheti are concerned with religious minorities whom they have frequent contacts.
This religion is Catholicism.
Also, relations with Catholics promote their tolerance towards other religious.
Students living in Tbilisi do not have one religion and they have neutral attitude toward all.
Within the scope of research there was a negative attitude towards Jehovah’s Witnesses in both of the university students, and the reason was named their disturbing conversations about their religion.
