Abstract
The purpose of the work is study of gender stereotypes in Georgian TV entertaining talk shows.
In our country along with the increase of degree of democratization the problem of gender inequality is becoming more and more obvious. In particular, I was interesting how used stereotypes are related to women in media coverage, especially in television, when covering issues related to women. Based on the research goal, the following main tasks were set:
o Study of the use of sexist language by journalists;
o Study of the use of xesist language by guests of the program;
In the study I used the qualitative method, in particular, a critical analysis of discourse. For the study in two different channels, I have chose 4 entertaining talk shows. Through the critical analysis of the discourse, I analyzed 36 programs.
As a result of discourse analysis of the programs have been revealed that while covering gender issues in Georgian entertainment talk shows the stereotypical thinking prevails. Different types of gender stereotypes have been identified, which indicate the gender inequality in Georgian society. Mainly are identified such kinds of stereotypes which are related to the expectations of marriage and the relationship between men and women; Stereotypes concerning the phenomenon of “real” Georgian woman; Stereotypes about the special relationship between the mother and son; Stereotypical views on dual standards. The stereotypes are transmitted in programs by programmers, as well as by guests.
