Abstract
In order for the education system to function effectively, school principals are vital. It is widely
accepted, that it is them who determine and have direct influence not only on the teachers’ job
performance but on the students’ results as well, in addition to the school environment, which can
be refered to asa organizational culture.
Nowadays, there are more than two thousand functioning public schools in Georgia, the
characteristics of which can be differentiated by various traits, such as the amount of students
studying in them, their geographical location, social context and many more. All these factors
represent challenges for the school principals and require the use of new approaches on their part.
The aim of this research paper is to study the different styles of leadership within school principals
and what influence they have on the organizational culture. The research on the above mentioned
topics is new to the system, since it had not been studied profoundly and thus, no recommendations
had been offered. Other than that, it is of big importance because generally it is good for the field
development, renovating the retraining system of the principals and developing new standards and
sharing experience.
As a result of the research, three types of school leadership styles have been differentiated. Number
one – those leaders, who have well-developed administrative skills, but have low sense of leadership.
Number two – those leaders, who have high sense of leadership, but suffer from lack of
administrative skills. Number three – those leaders, who have both traits in them combined. It is
worth mentioning, that the latter represented the minority of the whole group.
