Abstract
The following Master's thesis concerns the use of individual educational plan in the
process of teaching pupils with special educational needs. The obligation prescribed by law
(the law on general education) is that, in case of necessity, the school will develop an
individual curriculum within the National Curriculum for a pupil with special educational
needs. This document provides an opportunity to enable such pupil to engage in education
and school activities and allowing to plan all the sections that the pupil is spending at school.
Individual educational plan is one of the guarantees that the pupil will get the
education based on their needs and opportunities, and aims to meet the goals set out in the
i
ndividual curriculum and develop skills that are necessary in the process of adaptation.
Since the effectiveness of the plan determines how well this plan is implementing in the
learning process, the study of the topic is more relevant.
In this regard, we have examined the literature and found out that the research of this
issue in the Georgian reality was never conducted in the international area, and similar
research has been carried out by Karen Gregory in Canada, in particular in Ontario, in the
frame of PhD research (Karen P. Gregory, 2015). The following research concerns the
preparation of an individual educational plan for pupils with intellectual development
disorder.
The research is original for Georgian reality and it represents the novelty. In the
process of the search, we developed hypothesis that the teacher mainly does not use
individual educational plan in the process of teaching pupils with special educational needs,
and its existence often carries only a formal characteristic.
