Abstract
The Master’s work deals with the study of students’ formative assessment practices in
teaching English at the Basic School of General Education (GE). As is known, assessment of
students’ knowledge is an important and necessary part in the teaching process. Correct
assessment contributes to systematize knowledge, to depict the quality of this knowledge, to
reveal drawbacks and lagging behind of students and the class, to raise the feeling of
responsibility in students. Formative Assessment has a great educational importance: it has a
crucial role in improving students’ learning outcomes, has educational function.in addition
formative assessment helps to improve the degree of education. Thus, it is topical to study
formative assessment practices at the basic school of GE.
As from the available materials on this issue, it has become evident that the study of
formative assessment practices in teaching English at the basic school of GE has not been
conducted in Georgia so far. Hence, this is the novelty of the present study.
The hypothesis of the research: the formative assessment is not properly used in
teaching English.
