Abstract
The work deals with the financing of higher education in Georgia, in particular the foreign experience of financing higher education and the practice of Georgia. The issue is important because higher education contributes to the social and economic development of the country. It is noteworthy that funding for education and science in Georgia is significantly lower than the Commonwealth of Independent States and the relevant EU Member States.
Various models of state financing and subsequent redistribution allocated to higher education in different countries. The states are guided by different principles when deciding how to distribute the funds allocated to higher education and in what form these funds are given. We believe that the preferred model of Georgia should be based on the experience of a successful European educational system, first of all Georgia is closer to cultural peculiarities with European countries; The educational system of Georgia has historically much in common with the systems of communist past. Indicators of higher education in Georgia are more or less closely related to the indicators of European countries. It should be noted that it is better to take into consideration the example of relatively small countries. I think it is particularly important in the example of Estonia because it is a small-scale post-Soviet country that has achieved significant success in the field of higher education.
