Abstract
The paper explores the types of knights in Jeoffrey Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" and their knightly ideals of medieval chivalry. Along with the similarities, there are also differences. The reason for this must be the worldview and orientations of the new era, the Renaissance, which gradually faded the knightly traditions.
The novelty of the theme lies in the fact that so far one category of Chaucer heroes has not been explored - the faces of knights in relation to the knights of medieval knightly literature. In the Middle Ages, knightly code and ideals were the determinants of knightly behavior, and even in the literature of the time, flawless faces of knights are represented while in the Chaucer era, knighthood and knightly literature slowly gave up positions. Entering Renaissance culture introduces completely new principles and norms when a new literary event is introduced in Chaucer's work, and it is interesting to see how the knights of Chaucer's "Canterbury Tales" correspond to the knights of the classical period. Has the new era brought about changes in their behavior and character?
The work is as relevant as the importance of a thorough study and new understanding of the work of the classic of world literature- Chaucer.
The goal of the research is to study the Knights of Chaucer and contrast the look of the classical knight of medieval literature, to examine and point out the similarities and differences between them, and in the light of this, we can reasonably conclude how much the qualities of knights and chivalry, in general, have changed.
