Abstract
The master's thesis discusses the topics of accounting for financial instruments such as classifying instruments according to international financial accounting standards and reviewing their accounting characteristics.
Discussions are about the impact of the Corona virus on the financial instruments market and its accounting issues at the Commercial Bank as well. Economic growth and, consequently, raising the living standards of the country are directly related to the development of the financial instruments market. One of the determinants of the country's economic growth are strong companies and financial institutions, the success of which contributes greatly to attracting investment through securities.
The paper clearly shows how badly the Coronavirus pandemic has affected the entire economy and, consequently, the development of the financial instruments market. In Georgia, the attraction of monetary resources through the securities market is in a developing position, so the pandemic has mostly affected the developing sectors.
Issues of accounting for financial instruments are discussed in the example of TBC Bank and Bank Of Georgia. The paper clearly shows how the adoption of the new standard, the features of instrument evaluation and recognition have changed. From January 1, 2018, the banks approved IFRS 9 instead of IAS 39. According to Banks, a reduction in the value of financial instruments is observed according to the new standard.
