Abstract
Bamboo occupies an honorable place among plants with woodpulp of subtropic origin spread in Georgia. It is characterized by unusual rapid growth in short period of time, producing a large amount of precious wood-pulp, less expenses and efforts on its maintenance, ability to spread in useless for other plants areas.
The work deals with the history of spreading, introduction and acclimatization of Bamboo in Georgia, its systematic and bio-ecological characteristics. It also has a short review on Bamboo species, on technology of its maintenance and on its spread and exploitation. It is noted, that the attention towards this plant slowed down at the end of the 20 th century, law level of treating agro-techniques and unplanned, systematic exploitation of plants has weakened the Bamboo stand, caused its degradation and extinction too in some cases. In addition there was variety of opinions about its complicated biological characteristics of renovation after seed-producing and blooming.
The work presents the results of experiments on its growth rhythm and duration of vegetation, intensity of producing verdures and productivity of wood-pulp, on reasons causing the sparse Bamboo plantations and issues of its breeding with roots.
In conclusion, it is noted that Bamboo producing in Georgia does not meet the increased requirements on its production, so the issue of restoration and expansion of the plant area is essential. Georgia has a good prospective for its development in Black Sea sub-tropic zone, where free, unused areas are found, which are useless or less useful for other sub-tropic cultures.
