Abstract
The following thesis discusses the essence and problems of school readiness. In
general, the term – school readiness must be understood as a child's mental, emotional and
social readiness to the specific requirements of the school. As you know, child development is a
unique, proportionate and long term process that starts from birth and continues until the end
of childhood. According to the research, this path is main the determinant of the well-being of
person, the quality of learning, the behaviour and the future success.
It is scientifically confirmed that the readiness for school is not limited to age, it‟s depend
on the quality of motor, social-emotional, speech and cognitive development. The state of
health and development is also very important. All this, together with family is defined by
social environment, - kindergarten. Their joint work should improve the following areas of
development for school age children:
• Communication and general knowledge;
• Health, well-being;
• Social competence;
• Speech, cognition;
• Emotional readiness
