Political relationship between Us and Turkey

Abstract

The US - Turkey partnership has been around for several decades. The closest partnership between them came during the Cold War, when Turkey was widely regarded as a major supporter of US foreign policy in the Middle East. The end of the Cold War has made some changes in Turkey-US relations, as a result, nowadays the relations between these two countries are no longer close. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between the US and Turkey in the political and military spheres, to what extent has Turkey played a significant role in NATO-led military operations and whether they are still considered partners in the modern period? While the two countries' interests on certain political issues do not coincide. Qualitative research methodology will be used in the study to confirm the hypothesis, historical descriptive and data analysis method. The theory of realism will be used as a theoretical framework, according to which international politics is a struggle for power in an anarchic environment.

აშშ – თურქეთის პარტნიორული ურთიერთობები რამდენიმე ათეულ წელს ითვლის. ყველაზე მჭიდრო პარტნიორობა მათ შორის ჩამოყალიბდა ცივი ომის პერიოდში, როცა ახლო აღმოსავლეთის რეგიონში თურქეთი აშშ–ს საგარეო პოლიტიკის ყველაზე დიდ მხარდამჭერად მოიაზრებოდა. ცივი ომის დასრულებამ თურქეთ–აშშ–ს ურთიერთობებში გარკვეული ცვლილებები შეიტანა, რის შედეგადაც დღესდღეობით აღნიშნული ორი ქვეყნის ურთიერთობა ძველებურად მჭიდრო აღარ არის. ნაშრომის მიზანია გამოიკვლიოს, თუ რამ განაპირობა აშშ–სა და თურქეთის დაახლოება პოლიტიკურ და სამხედრო სფეროში, რამდენად მნიშვნელოვან როლს თამაშობდა ნატოს ეგიდით განხორციელებულ სამხედრო ოპერაციებში თურქეთი და მოიაზრებიან თუ არა ისევ პარტნიორებად თანამედროვე პერიოდში, მაშინ როცაგარკვეულ პოლიტიკურ საკითხებთან დაკავშირებით ორი ქვეყნის ინტერესი არ ემთხვევა. ჰიპოთეზის დასადასტურებლად კვლევაში გამოყენებული იქნება კვლევის თვისობრივი მეთოდოლოგია, ისტორიული აღწერილობითი და მონაცემთა ანალიზის მეთოდი. თეორიულ ჩარჩოდ გამოყენებული იქნება რეალიზმის თეორია, რომლის მიხედვითაც საერთაშორისო პოლიტიკა ანარქიულ გარემოში ძალაუფლებისთვის ბრძოლას წარმოადგენს.
