been looking for the world's sustainable development in geographical, economic, sociological,
and scientific disciplines. In the distant past, they came to the conclusion that tourism is a
crucial factor that draws on the world peoples, cultures and promotes harmonious and
sustainable development of the world community.
In terms of tourism, Georgia is becoming increasingly relevant and attractive every year.
According to the Georgian National Tourism Administration, there is a tendency to increase
international traffic in Georgia. According to the same sources, the number of unorganized and
organized tours has increased significantly in the Imereti region according to recent years.
Imereti region has an attractive geographical location, landscape, natural and historical-cultural
monuments that create a good prerequisite for tourism development in the region.
The ancient historical monuments in Imereti, the number of which is quite large, from
the late antique period to the beginning of the 20th century, gives visitors a glimpse of the
richest culture and history.
The master's thesis deals with the historical and cultural heritage of Imereti region,
characterization of Imereti sights and their role in Imereti tourism.
The goal of the research is to identify the main trends of tourism development in Imereti
region and study what is the place of historical and cultural heritage in tourism development in
the region.
