Abstract
Higher learning institutions are important places where students acquire knowledge and skills.
Besides, they may develop valuable relationships, which are reflected in emotional support, solidarity, getting mutual benefits and career networking. All these are often referred to as social capital. There are several types of social capital, however having more or less institutionalized relationships, focusing on mutual benefits, forming wide networks through clubs and professional communities together is called bridging social capital.
The higher education institution unites students with different views, experiences and attitudes.
Entering this environment is like entering “broader society” where students develop new connections and where it is useful to coordinate with other students to reach mutual goals.
The presented research is focused on accumulation of students’ bridging social capital and the factors that affect it. The research also investigates whether sampled universities are able to help students in the process of aggregating bridging social capital.
