The purpose of the work is to present the advancement of woman’s character and describe woman’s role and meaning in different epochs. Three narratives are analyzed in the work: “Life of Grigol Khandzteli” (10th Century), “Tortured Passion” (Beginning of 20th Century), “Torture of the Passioned” (end of 20th Century). The narratives were chosen due to similar storyline, where the character analyzed is the same person (“a women of ease virtue” and Shuqia). This gives us the opportunity to highlight the development of woman’s character throughout the middle ages up until today. (Obviously the work does not contain the full picture in between the epochs)

The work is adverted by religious and philosophical thoughts from early middle ages and 20th century, which helped us analyze the social mindset of these epochs. While analyzing the narratives we take into consideration the influence of epochs on social opinions towards women.

As we analyze the role of woman, we also look at the development steps of woman’s character. Described are the way woman’s role is realized in “The life of Grigol Khandzteli”, “Tortured Passion” and what are the different roles of women in postmodern narratives such as “Torture of the passioned”. In this example we use the deconstruction method.

The work contains five chapters. 1. Review of religious and philosophical opinions in middle ages (early middle ages). 2. Review of philosophical opinions in 20th century. 3. “the prostitute’s” face in “The Life of Grigol Khandzteli” 4. The transformation of “a women of easy virtue” in Vasil Barnov’s “Tortured Passion”. 5. The collapse of the values in “The Torture of the Passioned
