Abstract
The goal of this research is to understand how the Georgian Tele-Media protects personal data.
Whether the distribution of personal information is in compliance with international standards,
what types of violations are there and how damaging they can be.
Protection of personal data is quite difficult in the era of internet and social media. Nowadays,
everyone has an opportunity to have a profession of a journalist and deliver the information to
the audience even by starting a Live broadcast from phone. Therefore, it is unrealistic to
demand a full personal data protection. If we familiarize ourselves well enough to the standards
of personal data protection, we will see that human rights are violated by Georgian media every
day, in this respect.
Taking into consideration that the news is broadcasted in live, it is difficult to protect all
standards. Hence, I chose the Weekly Summary Shows of the two top-rated channels (“Rustavi
2” and TV company “Imedi”): “P.S” and “Imedi Week”. The hosts of these shows provide us
information on the event developments throughout the whole week, therefore, they have the
opportunity to maintain all personal data protection standards. I have used content analysis
method to study the issue.
