Abstract
Typological analysis of speech and perception is an attempt to determine the semantic fields and identify typological regularities. The topic is important (actual) from the psycholinguistic point of view as we simultaneously review the vocabulary reflecting the concepts of speech and hearing in non-related languages. However, it is hard to determine respective semantic fields, since the units reflecting completely different events might emerge in these fields. It can also be considered as a speech, since from a purely verbal point of you it might be understood as “Speech” but at the same time it has absolutely different psychological or logical motivation (for instance: praying, imploring) and reviewing the referred issue will distract us from the main point. We have a different reality in regard of perception. It is quite difficult to differentiate the meanings of hearing and listening in words or phrases/phraseological units as some words are used for different meaning. The context is not so important in such cases since it is expressed through a non-verbal purpose. However, we will leave it without discussion since the latter is not a topic of the current thesis.
These concepts were selected based on their function in the process of thoughtful and purposeful communication among the human beings that is one of the most significant functions of language as well as precondition for the development of society. This is a circular process to a certain extent, since a person speaks in order to convey, make the collocutor/companion (or listeners) understand certain information. At the same time he/she tries to perceive, process (realize) the stream of words after hearing and start the process again as well. The referred act is of ancient origin and dates back to the establishment of society. Hence, the vocabulary used in this process, has become the subject of our interest. We made efforts to imagine the development process of two hard psychological events Speech-Perception in a diachronic point of view. In this case, only the concepts were taken in a generalized mode. However, phrases/ phraseological units and proverbs having the same meaning (their meaning is of great importance for us) and interesting structural forms will be presented in the following chapters. We strongly believe, that phrases/ phraseological units describing the reality in a figurative manner and having extraordinary structural characteristics reflect the perception of any language and the nation accordingly. However, there is a strong sense of morality along with the structural characteristics in proverbs, that does not seem less interesting from the psychological point of view.
While writing the thesis we mainly used etymological, explanatory and translation dictionaries in both Georgian and foreign languages.
