Youth involvement in agricultural development is a significant challenge for every
country, but it has much more significance for Georgia where approximately 42.8% of
the population lives in rural areas and 48.6% is involved in agricultural activities. It is
paradoxical that agricultural contribution to Georgian gross domestic product is
approximately 9.1% (Geostat, 2015). According to Geostat data, the share of people aged
15-29 is 19% of the total number of Georgian population and it has been characterized
by a decreased tendency for the last 10 years. According to the youth policy document
of the country (2014), the goal of the youth policy is to support the creation of relevant
environment for the valuable development of youth where the young people will be
able to fully realize their potential and actively involve in every field of public life.
Presented master’s thesis is trying to answer the questions about whether the young
people living in rural areas have relevant environment for full development, whether
they manage to fully realize their potential, if they are involved in agricultural activities,
whether they are oriented on rural development, what obstacles they face on their way
and what factors condition the raise of their willingness and etc.
