Abstract
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict can be considered as one of the most important and
long-term challenges of modern system of international relations. It continues to be
“alive” and involves more and more states in its conflict resolution process. The reason
why I chose this conflict is the interest of why Israel has mistrust for EU policies in the
process of resolving conflict and crisis and generally whether EU is an efficient mediator
in solving this one of the most long-term conflict. It is also interesting why this conflict
is up-to-date for the Western countries and what interests do they have in the solution
of this conflict? Despite the fact that many international relations specialists have
worked on the ways of conflict resolution and many research papers have been
published, this work will be a little different in terms of involvement of mediators in
this process. The aim of this paper is to find out why Israel lost trust for the EU and
what effect does the EU's involvement in the settlement of the conflict have and also,
did EU’s aid to Palestine have the contradictory outcome for the peace process. This
paper also deals with what instruments the European Union uses for conflict resolution
and with its attitude towards borders, Jerusalem, general security, Palestinian refugees
and Jewish settlements. We will also examine how the EU's three most important,
Declarations of Venice (1980), Berlin (1999) and Seville (2002) were in conflict and how
consistent was EU involvement in these processes as one of the mediators.
