The Eastern Orthodox Christianity in Georgia has a special role in the history of our
country. The aim of the presented master’s thesis is to determine the role of the Eastern
Orthodox Christianity in the formation of Georgian nationalism. The specific role of the
Eastern Orthodox Christianity in the formation of Georgian nationalism does not contradict the
secular order of Georgia. It is necessary to find a moderate interval that involves separation of
the church and the institutional power of our country. There are many contradictory opinions
about this issue. The analysis of this issue is the interest of my research.
According to research hypothesis, implementation of national interests, depends on the
emergence of Georgian nationalism based on the Eastern Orthodox Christianity values. In
addition, it is important to highlight the important role of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia
Ilia II in Georgian society. Based on this, it is important to analyze the epistles of the Patriarch.
In the course of the research I used the qualitative research methodology to review the epistles
of the Patriarch. In addition, with the help of expert interviews, I tried to get objective results
for my research.
Based on the research it was established that the implementation of national interests
mostly depends on the values of The Eastern Orthodox Christianity and Georgian nationalism
in Georgia.
