Abstract
Age of adolescence is one of the most sensitive phases in terms of behavioral problems. Problematic
behavior of adolescents and related issues is urgent for almost all levels of public institution involved in
parenting style, prevention and rehabilitation process, including the family, school, crime prevention
agencies or the probation services.
Despite the actuality of problematic behavior there is small number of researches that examine the
characteristics of the problem of Georgian teenagers. This work focuses on studying this issue in this
context and aims to study individual or social characteristics associated with problematic behavior.
200 adults aged between 12 and 17 years (87 boys and 113 girls) took part in this research. Among them
were Tbilisi 21st, 115th, 55th public and European school students.
The main variables of research are: the problematic behaviour of adolescent (delinquency, substance
abuse), social variables - parenting style (liberal, authoritative and authoritarian style) and personal
variables - self-regulation and self-efficacy. Quantitative research methods are used to collect data. The
survey is based on a self-administered questionnaire.
As for research instruments, parenting style questionnaire (PAQ) was used to study the upbringing style.
Adult self-regulation questionnaire (ASRI) is used for assessing self-regulation skills, which is a
measurement tool based on a theoretical basis and evaluates the short-term and long-term self-regulation.
The use of social resources, the process of learning, extra-curricular activities, the effectiveness of selfregulation, the effectiveness of aeration of behavior and the implementation of social activities are used to
assess beliefs in self-efficacy within the scale of self-efficacy of children and adolescents written by
Bandura. For the assessment of problematic behavior of adolescents ordinar scale is used to measure two
types of problematic behaviors, namely: 1. Delincuency, including theft, vandalism, physical aggression 2.
Substances abuse, including the frequency of consumption of cigarettes and drugs.
An analysis of the data obtained showed that the social and individual factors used in the study are
statistically significant with regard to vulnerability to problematic behavior among Georgian adolescents.
In particular a low index of problematic behavior is associated with the style and self-regulation of
authoritarian education. Also, high index of problematic behavior is mostly associated with boys, than
girls and the chance of problematic behavior raises through the age. Parenting style independently
influences behavioral behavior without the intervention of individual factors.
