Abstract
Topicality of the thesis: Nowadays English language is recognized internationally
throughout the world. It is the means of trade, diplomacy, policy, science, culture, and business
communication between countries. Generations‟ opinions and interests about English Language
learning and teaching are changing.
In developed technology, new economic reality and globalization increased attention is
paid to the use of knowledge in practice and the ability to acquire learning skills independently.
As Professor Sharon Friesen notes, it`s the time ” when what we know is not so important as
how we can use this knowledge in different contexts".
That is why it is important to introduce and implement modern methods in the learning
process. In the initial stage of teaching English routine lessons are uninteresting and tedious for
students. Therefore, teachers should offer different learning methods to students in order to
facilitate the development of XXI century competences. Students should be able to think
critically, to argue their own opinions and interests, evaluate them and draw conclusions.
It is interesting to know what the situation is in Georgia in this respect. What is the
attitude of Georgian English language teachers to project based learning? And what do they
offer to their students in order to learn English language not only for learning linguistic aspects,
but also for the development of their thinking skills and the use of these skills in practice.
